Great Board Chairs

It’s been said that organizations can never be better than their boards. And HGA believes great boards probably don’t exist without an exceptional board chair. In this Hospice Governance Academy Spotlight Interview, Bill Musick, President of Integriti3D, speaks with Marla Cornelius, consultant and coach in nonprofit leadership, management, and board governance, to learn more about what makes a great board chair. This first interview segment focuses on what defines a great board chair: effectiveness, facilitative, the different roles a board chair plays, and their sphere of influence.

Leveraging the Partnership Between the Board Chair and the Chief Executive

There’s arguably no more important governance relationship than that between the board chair and the chief executive of the organization. In this Hospice Governance Academy Spotlight Interview, Bill Musick, President of Integriti3D, speaks with Makiyah Moody of La Piana Consulting about this important relationship. The board chair and the chief executive need to establish a rapport that serves as a model for other relationships on the board. Their roles are different, but interdependent, so they need to be in-sync in order to work toward the mission and the impact that they want to have.
